NYC Ballet; Indianapolis 500; Garden time; Whirligig, Anguilla

Anguilla

We went to Anguilla last week. We flew Jet Blue from JFK to St Maarten as United does not go to St Maarten very often in the off season. Jet Blue was good. They provide lots of legroom. After landing in St Maarten we took a cab to Marigot. 15 minutes and $20 and we then took the public ferry to Anguilla. Prior to getting on the ferry we stopped at Serafinas, a great French boulangerie. Picked up an apple tarte, apricot tarte and a pear tarte and a ham and cheese sandwich on a baguette.

We picked up a car at Andy's car rental at the ferry terminal in Anguilla. A small Nissan March. They drive on the other side of the road. The car had the controls on the right side. Every time I turned I turned on the windshield wipers instead of the directionals. The car was fine.

We stayed at Cap Juluca. https://www.belmond.com/cap-juluca-anguilla/Really enjoyed ourselves. The beach is spectacular.

Finally saw a flash of green. I have been looking for it just after a sunset for years. Low and behold it surprised just before dinner one night.

Dinner at he  Malliouhana. The hotel restaurant was beautiful and the food very good. The restaurant has not been discovered by the foodies traveling to Anguilla.

The start of my garden.

NYC Ballet

We saw a Midsummer's Night Dream performed by the NYC Ballet at Lincoln Center in NYC. It is a rare full length NYC Ballet ballet choreographed by Balanchine with music by Mendelssohn. The ballet was lively, funny and the dancing exquisite. We sat in the 4th ring on the side for $30. The seats were very good with solid sight lines. If you have never been to the ballet, check out the NYC Ballet.http://www.nycballet.com/?gclid=CjwKEAjwjunJBRDzl6iCpoKS4G0SJACJAx-VFbW2-Em4hIDxPg3LHE-YHLZLsNUBt2RUST2-9URU-BoC-tDw_wcB

Indy 500

I had the opportunity to attend a practice for the Indy 500. The cars go so fast and  make so much noise. Very impressive.

Whirligig

We attended Whirligig at the New Group http://www.thenewgroup.org/the-whirligig.html in NYC. Great cast with Norbert Leo Butz and Zosia Mamet written by Hamish Linklater. At the beginning of the second act strange noise and lights started. There was a fire alarm. The play stopped and the actors had no idea of what to do. We were told to sit until they had furthter info. We were then told to evacuate. There were 2 other theaters with plays and it was rainy and windy. We waited in the lobby as the fire trucks came. After 45 minutes we were told that the play was cancelled. It was definitely a new experience for us at the theater.

We were able to rebook for another date in June. The first act was intriguing and the acting is great. We saw the last act yesterday and enjoyed it. The play has no resolution for the story but the acting makes the play very watchable. Celebrity alert -Bill Murray was hanging out in the lobby

Derren Brown Secrethttps://atlantictheater.org/playevents/derren-brown-secret/

We saw this show a few weeks ago. He is  a  mentalist/magician. The show was very good.
and kept us amazed. We figured out a few tricks but cannot figure out the final big trick. It was definitely worth seeing. BTW - he called on me for one of his tricks. That made the show special.

Wines

Check out this article (Let’s Be Clear: Bad Wines Are Bad Wines, Period) on wine by Eric Asimov in the NY Times. He discusses  the impact of bad wine on on wine drinkers.https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/15/dining/processed-wines-dont-drink-them.html?rref=collection%2Fcolumn%2FThe%20Pour&action=click&contentCollection=Food&module=Collection&region=Marginalia&src=me&version=column&pgtype=article

Enjoy. More on Anguilla soon.
